Sofia Andres, An Embodiment of Filipinas’ Breakthrough and Bloom

I’m glad to be able to go out of the house without the kids in tow, to be able to attend an event, but more than that, I came home fully-inspired and with some wonderful beauty products that I’ve just discovered. A Mother’s Legacy in the Time of Covid

Took me a while to start writing this blog as my mom went home to our Lord last October 2. Two months have passed and my heart still aches for her loss.

My mom’s passing seemed to deliver me to a world I have thought about but haven’t actually fully prepare for. It’s that morning after when it slowly sinks in, you try to get comfort from the things that make you happy, find solace in remembering how happy I was when with her or just talking about my plans in life. Now, i felt a little lost, like I was uprooted and something in me just got disconnected all of a sudden. #Covid19 made this time a lot harder for our family, but the love that bound us before is the love that is making us strong. I hope my mom can see how we miss her and how much she is loved and honored.

I owe my life to her, her strength, her hard work, her generosity and mostly her faith lived on in me. To list all the lessons I’ve learned might take a lifetime, my lifetime, as my life, as what it is today, mostly was shaped by her approval. So I’m just going to touch on the two most valuable life lessons from my mother.

Spiritual Legacy

Faith that can move mountains and create miracles – is the foundation I am standing on right now. Spiritual legacy is all about your relationship with the Lord—the stories of your past and present walk with Jesus given to the future. I first saw it in my mom when she went home from working in Italy. She was the one who brought me to being a true follower of Christ. It is through her fervent prayers that brought the whole family to the church we all serve. Now that she is gone, that same faith the bound us is still the same that gives us so much grace. And yes, even though we are longing for her warm embraces, words of unseeming reminders, I am comforted in the thought that she is now in a place of eternal bliss, no pain and sorrow, How I pray my kids inherit the same or even greater faith than mine.

Planning for the Family’s Future – Financial Legacy

I remembered when I was younger and we would write her letters telling her know how we have been good girls and boy, and that we studied well as we promised, so that we could be rewarded with nice things. I thought that was just it to get rewards from your hard toils but it was for our future all along with education as one of our arm in shaping our future.

Before she left to work abroad, she taught my sister and me how to deposit money in the bank, and yes, I already have a bank account as early as Grade 5 and I managed to save money until my high school days. New Born Babies with Jaundice Explained

Another issue we had was that the baby was in breech position where her buttocks  was positioned to be delivered first as it is what’s in the birth canal.  To make the story short, I have to give birth through Cesarian Section.  As we were waiting for our scheduled delivery date, on my 37th week, my water broke and I bled a bit, so on May 13, voting day for Philippine elections, I was rushed to the hospital and was immediately submitted to C-section.

With that backgrounder, I guess having a premature is next to nothing.  When I first saw her after being removed from my belly she was light blue, then a few minutes after, cleansed, she became pinkish.  She was sent to the nursery as her temperature dropped.  When she then was brought to our room she was red and plumpy.  Doctors kept on checking in on her and touching her with their index fingers, as they checked on her reddish skin turning yellow when touched.

This condition is common to premature newborns, like my baby girl.  This is called jaundice in newborns.  I was a bit worried but after our visit to her pedia, I was hopeful and enlightened, here are some info about jaundice in newborns.

When a baby’s skin, and the white part of their eye, appear yellow, he or she may have infant jaundice.  It is a common condition in infants, affecting over 50 percent of all newborns.

Jaundice is said to be  common in premature babies – boys more often than girls and usually It usually appears within the baby’s first week of life.

In an otherwise healthy baby born at full term, infant jaundice is rarely a cause for alarm; it tends to go away on its own. However, if treatment is necessary, infants tend to respond to non-invasive therapy.

In rare cases, untreated infant jaundice may lead to brain damage and even death.

Scary, I know!

But this can be treated, as long as it is monitored either at home or in the hospital.

in our case, it took us 30 days to really notice the change (to normal) and even a few more days as we also might have the case that’s called breastmilk jaundice.

 

 

Winter Vacation with Ease and Style with Uniqlo 2019 Fall/Winter Collection

Last year, our family went to South Korea for Christmas and one of the stores in SM Aura that we went to to buy winter clothes is Uniqlo.  I swear by their Heat Tech. jackets and undergarments.

We went by prancing in the winter cold from one district to another looking for my daughters’ and I’s K-drama favorite actors.  I never heard a single qualms about Korea’s December temperature because I made sure we all have clothes to protect us from the harsh weather, the snowy cold temperature even.
