A sure-fire way to stay involved with my kids’ views about their media picks is to watch the movie with them, this may also create an opportunity to discuss their thoughts on the movie. Last Friday, my husband and I had a favorable time to watch the movie, Heaven is for Real with my three girls. Thanks to PLDT Home DSL and Icons Celebrity Marketing for inviting me to the block screening of the said movie.
In the movie, Greg Kinnear portrays Rev.Todd Burpo, a Pastor of Crossroad Wesleyan Church, who sought the courage and conviction to share his son’s extraordinary, life-changing experience with the world. The adorable four-year old Colton, told his Dad of his experience seeing heaven, Jesus, the angels, the sister he never knew he had, and his Dad’s grandfather, after surviving a near-death surgery due to ruptured appendix.
Colton went on to describe the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how “reaaally big” God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit “shoots down power” from heaven to help us. Told by Colton’s father often in Colton’s own words, the disarmingly simple message is that heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and that the message is simple – it is all about God’s love and how He reaches out in many magnificent ways,we sometimes could not fathom easily, just to convey His personal message.
It’s a movie ought to be enjoyed by the whole member of the family. It spoke right to my heart and my kids got inspired from it.
On that note, we also got to see and hear from another family, the Ledesma Family, chosen by PLDT to represent PLDT Home DSL,.whom we usually get to see in the commercials. Their claim to fame began with seven-year-old Diego, who has tens of thousands of fans on his advice column on Facebook, “Ask Diego”. The Ledesmas are the perfect fit for the commercial because they are the ideal example of today’s young, urban family: tight-knit, enjoys doing things together online using multiple gadgets simultaneously to help one another out. That’s where PLDT HOME DSL’s limitless and reliable family-sized connection really comes in handy. This kind of strong connection helps keeps the family together, in more ways than one.
Remember the cute boy in the commercial, asking for advice on how to get a girlfriend? Yup, he is Diego! As a mom to girls as young as Diego, getting connections online can either build them up, educationally or harm them, that’s why like Diego’s mom, I monitor my kids’ activities on the internet.
Funny that Diego started getting so many questions on topics ranging on love, studies, and bullying, all the way to vacation and business ideas. Before he sees the questions, Paolo and Lara delete offensive content, and sometimes answer the more difficult questions themselves. Then they help him type out answers, especially when he asks about how to spell words. On occasion, Diego also gets ideas for answers from his Ate Trisha. A great example of a well-built family coordination.
The group’s focus on family values and connection through limitless sharing truly spell the difference. Imagine how amusing and cute yet full of sense, the mind of every child is. Just imagine Colton of the movie Heaven is for Real, getting on the internet, through a blog or an FB page sharing his message and how he can bless more people telling by just telling his story. The same with Diego, and the Ledesma family, how they share tips, and their thoughts on some topics, that could be one great family fun, don’t you think.
